Queensland, Australia Gold Mine – Water Evaporation Solution

Minetek Evaporation System Package assists Queensland Gold Mine to dewater pit and TSF

Minetek Water provided an emergency response water management solution for a gold mining operation in Queensland, Australia. The project involved deploying a 15 x Land-Based Water Evaporation System Package and a 4 x Floating Water Evaporation System Package, designed to rapidly manage and reduce excess water levels in critical situations. With a substantial combined volume throughput of 1,477 cubic meters per hour (6,560 gallons per minute), these systems offered a powerful and flexible solution to address water management emergencies. This project underscores Minetek Water’s ability to deliver adaptable and high-capacity evaporation solutions for the mining industry, ensuring operational stability and compliance with environmental regulations in urgent scenarios.

Location – Queensland, Australia
Industry – Gold Mining
Application – Emergency Response Water Management
Product – 15 x Land-Based Water Evaporation System Package, 4 x Floating Water Evaporation System Package
Volume throughput – 1,477 m3/hour (6,560 GPM)

Brief

As a result of recurring La Niña and other rainfall events including devastating floods, our client needed to mitigate the risk of water impacting on their production and as such the site required a water management solution that could deliver dewatering for the site’s pit and Tailings Storage Facility (TSF).

Challenge

A failure to address the site’s water volume presented potential economic, environmental, regulatory, and social ramifications for our client. This could include potential loss of production and revenue, possible site shutdown, fines, non-compliance, or a potential environmental incident.

Solution

The site’s combined 19 x Minetek Water Evaporators, when operating all together, can achieve a water flow rate of 1,477 m3/hour (6,560 GPM).  The system’s large evaporation capacity significantly decreases the water volume on-site minimising the impact of water on production and ensuring environmental compliance.
