Water power plant and energy industry water management.
Turn-key water management solution for a hydro water power plant.
Minetek Water partnered with a renewable energy generation provider in Kidston, Queensland, Australia, to address critical water management requirements for a former gold mine pit. This pumped storage water project generates, stores, and dispatches renewable energy on demand during peak periods and is the first hydro water power plant project to utilise an abandoned gold mine.
Their water management solution involved deploying four turn-key land-based evaporation systems, each equipped with integrated environmental management systems. With a combined volume throughput of 2,400 gallons per minute (540 m³/hour) and an estimated evaporation efficiency of 45% at night and 52% during the day, these systems provided a robust and efficient method for rapidly reducing water levels, enabling access to underground workings for the pumped hydro project while ensuring environmental compliance.

Brève
A rapid and effective water management solution was required for the Pumped Storage & Hydro Water Plant, a critical initiative to repurpose a former gold mine pit for hydropower generation. The project required the supply and commissioning of four turnkey land-based evaporation systems, integrated with EMS, to address water accumulation and facilitate access to underground workings.
Défi
The former gold mine pit contained a significant volume of water, posing a barrier to accessing underground workings essential for the pumped hydro project. Without an efficient water removal solution, the project faced risks of delays, increased costs, and potential environmental non-compliance, all of which could jeopardize the timely development of this innovative hydropower initiative.
Solution
Minetek Water implemented a tailored solution by deploying four turn-key land-based evaporation systems, each equipped with integrated EMS. With a combined throughput capacity of 2,400 gallons per minute (540 m³/hour) and evaporation efficiencies of 45% at night and 52% during the day, the systems effectively reduced water volumes in the mine pit. The EMS enabled real-time monitoring and control, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to regulatory standards. This solution minimized environmental risks, supported project timelines, and reinforced the commitment of this hydroelectric water power plant to sustainable practices in the hydropower sector.
