Maranoa Waste Processing Facility – Water Managament Solution

Water Management in the Waste Processing & Municipal L'industrie

Effective water management is essential in waste processing to mitigate regulatory, operational, and financial risks tied to wastewater, leachate, and resource recovery. Facilities handling diverse waste streams, including municipal, industrial, and hazardous materials, generate significant volumes of contaminated water through decomposition, filtration, and treatment. Traditionally, water management emphasized containment, treatment, and disposal.

Modern approaches prioritize resource recovery, transforming wastewater into valuable elements such as nutrients and energy. With Minetek’s water management solutions, wastewater can be evaporated, leaving behind useful nutrients for recovery. This shift supports regulatory compliance, reduces costs, and mitigates risks like groundwater contamination and overflow in extreme weather. Mechanical evaporation empowers facilities to manage their water balance and strengthen sustainability.

Minetek’s water evaporators are engineered to handle a wide range of water qualities. They pump high volumes of water at high pressure through specially designed nozzles, atomizing it into fine droplets that are dispersed into the atmosphere for evaporation. Some of the water evaporates, while the rest returns to the source with solids, salts, heavy metals, or contaminants.

Turn-key solution for waste processing water management & balance mitigation.

Managing wastewater in Queensland presents unique challenges due to the region’s high humidity, frequent rainfall, and complex environmental regulations. The tropical climate often leads to higher volumes of wastewater and increases the risk of overflow, making effective water management solutions even more critical. Despite these hurdles, Minetek has consistently delivered proven results, not only in Queensland but also in a variety of climates around the world.

Our team works in close partnership with the Queensland Government and the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI). Leveraging our experience managing hypersensitive sites, we help our clients implement robust water management practices that comply with DETSI standards. This collaborative approach ensures solutions are tailored to local requirements and environmental sensitivities, supporting both operational efficiency and environmental protection. Meeting DETSI guidelines is often one of the most difficult aspects of water management, regardless of whether you’re dealing with effluent, leachate, mine-affected water, or produced water. Navigating these regulations can be daunting for many facilities, but our expertise and technology help simplify the process and ensure ongoing compliance.

Minetek’s solutions simplify water management for waste processing sites by streamlining processes, reducing administrative burdens, and giving site operators confidence that their compliance and sustainability obligations are being met. While traditional methods typically require obtaining multiple licenses and lengthy approval processes, mechanical evaporation is a well-accepted practice that can often be incorporated into pre-existing solar evaporation agreements. This makes it easier for many facilities to adopt new, efficient solutions without facing significant regulatory delays. If you manage a waste processing site in Queensland, Minetek can provide evaporation efficiency modeling to help evaluate exactly how our technology will perform under your unique conditions. Our team will work with you to analyze site-specific data, project outcomes, and provide a clear assessment of your potential benefits. Request an evaporation efficiency analysis for your site today to begin optimizing your water management strategy.

L'industrie – Municipal
Sector – Waste processing, resource recovery & treatment facility
Localisation Maranoa Region. Queensland, Australia
Produit/champ d'application – Turn-key floating evaporation system with environmental management system
Débit en volume43 m3/hour (190 GPM)
Application – Water balance mitigation

Brève

A comprehensive water management solution was required for deployment at this leading waste processing, resource recovery, and treatment facility. The project involved the supply and commissioning of a turn-key floating evaporation system integrated with an environmental management system to mitigate water balance issues.

Défi

The facility struggled to effectively manage water balance amid increasing wastewater from processing and recovery. High volumes of wastewater generated from resource extraction and treatment activities were accumulating such as leachate. Traditional methods, like off-site disposal or basic treatment, were costly and inefficient. The client needed a scalable, automated solution for variable water qualities, with lower capital and operating costs in a high-demand setting.

Champ d'application

Minetek supplied and commissioned a turn-key floating evaporation system with an environmental management system, including a pumping system, electrical switchboard, HDPE poly pipes, and control cables for automation. The system processes up to 43.2 cubic meters per hour / 190 gallons per minute, adapting to varying water qualities, and requires minimal maintenance while operating 24/7.

Résultats

The implementation helped improve water management, reducing excess water volume. Environmental impacts were minimized through sustainable leachate management, which prevented contamination.
