Kalgoorlie Gold Mine – High Output Axial Fans

A breath of fresh air for Kalgoorlie Gold Mine.

Originally discovered in 1979, this open-cut gold mine is located in Laverton, which is approximately 400km northeast of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. Brownfield and extensional exploration is ongoing, suggesting a greater Life Of Mine (LOM) than currently reported. Minetek’s underground ventilation solution not only met the airflow and power needs of the Mine site today but also for the entire Life Of Mine, resulting in less downtime, increased production and capital savings.

Industrie - Exploitation minière
Mine type – Open-cut
Mineral – Gold
Localisation - Laverton, Western Australia, Australia
Product/Scope – High Output (HO) 3 x Axial Fans – Turnkey solution, supply and install.

The project included three separate installations, with a single fan per bulkhead. Each fan replaced two existing fans and provided the required airflow from the install date to LOM.

The Brief

The gold mine was in need of a ventilation upgrade that offered the variability of airflow and power needed today, but also at LOM. The site also demands a heavy-duty ventilation system able to withstand the highly saline air conditions experienced at the gold mine.

Supplied

Minetek supplied three (3) High Output Series 2650mm 1100kW Fans with the longevity and variability of airflow and power to provide adequate ventilation for the site from install to LOM. Additionally, the robust design and build quality of Minetek's Fans provides the gold mine with a low-maintenance ventilation system that is able to withstand the high saline air conditions without constant maintenance.

Résultats

The gold mine ventilation solution provided by Minetek included three (3) separate installations, with a single fan per bulkhead. Each Minetek fan replaced two of the site's existing fans and was able to provide the required airflow from install date to Life Of Mine (LOM).

Minetek orchestrated a delicate installation process, careful to maintain mine production as well as prevent stalling of the previous fans during the installation. Once Minetek's Fans were installed, the previous fans were removed from the site.

Our Performance à la demande (POD) technology allows operators to tailor pressure and power consumption.

The Minetek Fans operate with the Minetek Performance on Demand (POD) system which provides the gold mine with reduced power consumption costs, increased operational efficiency, and optimised performance via technology that allows operators to tailor power consumption and pressure without Variable Speed Drive (VSD) controls.

Due to their size, for the fans to be tested prior to shipping, approval had to be granted from the Power Supply Authorities, and all other facilities in the Minetek complex had to be shutdown to provide enough power.

Uygulamalar

Minetek have supplied the Laverton gold mine with an underground ventilation system that will not only meet the airflow and power needs of the site today, but also at Life Of Mine, resulting in less downtime, increased production, and capital savings for the site.
