Mineral – Coal
Location – Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia
Product/Scope – Sound attenuation on Caterpillar 789 C haul truck
Brief
Minetek's client needed to significantly decrease the sound output of their Caterpillar 789 C to meet environmental regulations and prevent the delays and stoppages that were leading to significant loss of production and profits.
Challenge
Minetek was commissioned to design and manufacture a Sound Attenuation Package for the Caterpillar 789 C Dump Truck that would allow our client to operate the machine in accordance with the stringent noise regulations onsite.
Solution
With Minetek's Sound Attenuation Package installed, our client could continue the operation of the Caterpillar 789 C during noise-sensitive times and within noise-sensitive areas. Minetek is internationally recognised among OEMs and mining operators as enabling the world’s quietest mining machinery through our Sound Attenuation Packages. Our Sound Attenuation solutions are engineered to maintain productivity and minimise the impact on operators and maintenance teams. Minetek’s modular sound suppression kits are available for mining trucks, excavators, dozers, loaders and drills, with certified installation teams available globally.
Pre attenuation
123 dBA
Minetek tested the sound output of the Caterpillar 789 C before attenuating this machine. This registered a sound frequency level of 123 dBA.
Post attenuation
112 dBA
The sound output of the Caterpillar 789 C was tested after installing Minetek’s turn-key sound attention package. This registered a sound frequency level of 112 dBA.
Sound reduction
11 dBA
Minetek was able to reduce the sound output on the Caterpillar 789 C dump truck by 11 dBA.
