Montana, USA Power Station – Water Management Solution

Coal-fired power station in Montana, USA, effectively manages brine wastewater

Minetek’s Coal-Fired Power Station client, located in Montana, United States, was dealing with significant volumes of brine wastewater and needed a management system large enough to efficiently manage the high volume of brine wastewater onsite. After considering a number of alternate, costly solutions including a brine concentrator, this Coal-Fired Power Station approached Minetek for an efficient and cost-effective solution.

Client – Coal-Fired Power Station
Location – Montana, United States
Type – Pengelolaan Air
Industry – Pembangkit Listrik
Product – 10 x 400/200 Water Evaporation System Package
Volume throughput m3 + GPM – 900 m3/hour (4,000 GPM)
Application – Wastewater Pond

Business Challenge

Due to the cold climate in Montana, the power station has a limited window for operation, only running water management systems between May to October each year. As such, the client required a solution that could adequately manage the brine wastewater within this limited time frame. Minetek was commissioned to design and supply a complete system package to operate 12-24 hours per day, during the client's 6-month operational period each year. Minetek's system was specifically sized and designed to work with the client's limited operational window.

"The ability of our units to efficiently and cost-effectively evaporate water of any pH in any climate made Minetek's solution perfect for our power generation client in Montana."

Hasil

The Minetek team successfully designed, manufactured, and installed a system of 10 x Stainless Steel Water Evaporator Units plus a heavy-duty pumping system that was fully automated and integrated into the power plant’s operating system. The evaporators can evaporate water with a pH level ranging from 1.8 to 14+, including brine water. When operating 24 hours a day, the mechanical evaporation system evaporates more than 2.9 million gallons of brine wastewater per day. In line with the client's urgent need for the water management system, Minetek's complete system package was delivered multiple weeks ahead of schedule. Minetek project specialists provided installation support and worked with the power plant personnel to successfully commission the system.

"The enormous evaporation capability that Minetek's water management system offers to our power station client allows them to effectively manage brine water, despite a limited operating window."
