Cool Ash Pond Dewatering

Minetek provides an efficient and cost-effective solution to remediate basins with ash pond water enabling the stabilisation of wet ash.

Ash pond dewatering systems

Ash pond dewatering is essential for managing wastewater from coal-fired power plants and mining operations. These ponds store byproducts like coal ash and other pollutants, often containing high levels of contaminants. Proper management of ash ponds is critical to prevent environmental contamination and meet regulatory standards.

Minetek’s advanced evaporation solutions are designed to effectively dewater coal ash ponds, removing excess water and reducing the volume of stored waste. Our systems handle high pollutant levels without extensive pre-treatment, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with environmental regulations. With Minetek’s expertise in challenging mining conditions, operators can manage by-products efficiently and sustainably.

Cost savings

Significantly reduce operational costs by minimising the need for off-site disposal and water treatment costs.

Environmental responsibility

Minimize your environmental impact by eliminating the need for traditional liquid waste disposal methods and reducing the risk of excess water storage.

Mobile & scalable solution

Our systems can adapt to the evolving needs of your oil & gas operations, ensuring they remain effective as you grow.

Regulatory compliance

Minetek helps you navigate and exceed stringent environmental regulations, ensuring your activities remain compliant.

Standalone or hybrid solution for ash ponds

Minetek’s evaporation technology can process varying water qualities, including solids up to 4.0mm in diameter and wastewater with a pH level ranging from 1.8 to 14+ used to efficiently manage wastewater from coal-fired power plants and mining operations.

Our mechanically enhanced evaporators accelerate the evaporation of water from coal ash ponds. By pumping a high volume of water at high pressure through atomizing nozzles, the water droplets are forced up into the atmosphere to evaporate. Any solids, salts, heavy metals or contaminants that are contained within this water will typically not evaporate; they will fall out along with the non-evaporated droplets, leaving behind concentrated pollutants, salts and solids. This significantly reduces the volume of water that needs further management.

Minetek’s approach to coal ash pond dewatering offers an additional layer of efficiency for managing and treating wastewater. The remaining concentrated residue can be further treated to mitigate its environmental impact, and depending on the nature of the residues left behind, there might be opportunities for recovering valuable resources.
