The Caterpillar 785 dump truck is a haul truck model commonly employed in open-pit mining operations. Manufactured by Caterpillar Inc., the 785 boasts a substantial capacity of 177 tonnes and a powerful engine generating 1770 horsepower.
Unlike some competing products that utilise hybrid drive systems, the Caterpillar 785 relies entirely on a mechanical drive-train. Having first entered the market in 1986 the 785 variants has proved themselves to be reliable haul truck options in a range of open pit mining settings.

Brief
Minetek's client needed to significantly decrease the sound output of their fleet of 19 x Caterpillar 785 C and 5 x Caterpillar 785 D haul trucks to meet environmental regulations and prevent the delays and stoppages that were leading to significant loss of production and profits.
Challenge
Minetek was commissioned to design and manufacture a Sound Attenuation Package for the Caterpillar 789C Dump Truck that would allow our client to operate the machine in accordance with the stringent noise regulations onsite.
Solution
Minetek delivered a fully engineered stage 2 sound attenuation solution to the entire fleet including exhaust systems with attenuated silencers and outlets, as well as radiator attenuation and bumper extensions.
